SENIORS IN SYMPHONY is a program for senior living facility residents to provide relaxation, decrease stress, and bring a more positive state of mind.
Persons with dementia, among other symptoms, often suffer from aphasia and amnesia, which makes verbal communication very difficult, sometimes confusing, and often anxiety provoking. Singing is a source of stimulation and interaction, an alternative method of communication, and promotes engagement in an activity, as well as interaction with another human being.
Singing familiar songs with seniors will provide a way to:
Contain and express inner feelings
Interact with another person
Help memory
Tap into memories and emotions
In addition, we take a drum circle to memory care units & senior living facilities. Drumming improves circulation in the hands and body, loosens stiff joints in the shoulders, arms and wrists, and stimulates the mind. Residents report improvement in general coordination, walking, speaking, sleeping, and thought process, and experience a boost in self-esteem and overall confidence.
